Hello teacher friends! I am officially on Fall Break! I feel so refreshed and rejuvenated already! I have an AWESOME (in my opinion) reading freebie for you today.
In my current 5th grade classroom, I have 26 students and 11 of them are struggling readers, reading on a low 3rd grade level. I can tell already that I have some parental support from most of the parents. So, I put together a Take Home Reading Skills Book to use with ANY book. The book contains a page for each reading strategy. These are the strategies that I teach my students in class during guided reading. I provided sentence stems as a scaffold for the readers. The pdf is separated by strategies to use with Fiction books and strategies to use with Nonfiction books. I also typed up a quick letter to send home to the parents to introduce the Take Home book.
I plan to get these booklets printed and copied and ready to go after Fall Break. I think this will really help my students take ownership for their reading and improve their skills! I can’t wait to get back to school and try it out. (Well, I CAN wait, but you get the idea!)
I hope you enjoy it! Click on the picture to go to my TPT store and get it for FREE!
