Earlier this week, I blogged about sneaking some constructed response practice into Halloween fun. Read that post and grab two free math tasks by click here. The students had a great time completing them and it was some much needed practice so I decided to create a winter version for this upcoming winter season. I created four winter math word problems based on the common core standards for 5th grade.
Skills included in this resource are dividing with unit fractions, multiplying fractions by whole numbers, comparing and ordering decimals, and writing numerical expressions. Each page contains winter graphics that match the math task. Each winter math task also comes with a coordinating “We Can” statement so the problems could be made into a holiday display with their winter math work. The students could even color the graphics and border on each page to make the printable cute. These would make a super simple and super cute winter math display.
As you can see, each task contains a rigorous task and plenty for room for the students to show all of their work. Each task also includes a reminder or the students to include visuals, equations, and a written explanation in their answer.
