For this month’s Math is Real Life, I am talking about one of my favorite things to do: Cyber Shopping (and sharing a math with coupons free printable!). My husband swears I am addicted but with Amazon prime and all the other conveniences, how can you not just love it? Did anyone do any cyber shopping this weekend or Monday? I picked up a few things online for the family. I did NOT brave the crowds, though! Other than the obvious reasons (shopping in pajamas!!), I also love the online discounts and promo codes that you can find online during Cyber Monday! I definitely took advantage of some of those codes!
While I was shopping and looking at all those coupon, I had to make some decisions about which codes would give me the best savings. A little bit of math with percentages took place when I used. Here is an example of some of the coupon math I had to do:
After doing all that math with coupons (and shopping), I decided this was a great way to teach percentages and multiplying with decimals. I made this simple to use printable that has the students practicing the same math that I was doing while I was shopping. In this printable, the students are given a total price and two options for discounts. They are calculate the price after the discount and determine which would be the better deal.
